A WATERFORD woman has described her anguish at still trying to find out where the body of her baby boy, whom she gave birth to in 1966, is buried.

Kathleen Byrne says she was told the boy - her second child, whom she named Patrick - was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in a pauper's grave.

She receive his death certificate 34 years after his death but still has many questions as to what happened after his birth.

Speaking to Damien Tiernan on 'Deise Today', Kathleen described going into Airmount Maternity Hospital to have Patrick, when she was aged just 20. She was a married woman and already had one child. It was December 1966.

However, some days after an accident at the time of birth, Patrick was taken for "a small procedure" and she never saw him again. She was later told the child had died and she couldn't have his body back to bury him.

"He was my child and I went in (to Airmount) to have him, a normal baby," she said.

"He had an accident in the hospital; my baby fell down the toilet. They gave me the injection. My second child...I was drowsy, I wasn't in any labour. I thought I wanted to go to the bathroom and I went in and my baby fell down. I don't know who picked him up, how long it took to take him out of there. But the next day they told me 'you have a boy'."

Kathleen said she asked to see the boy and she did see him. He was in an incubator but was feeding well.

But later in the week she was told Patrick had "took a turn" and that a priest had been sent for. She handed over the baby for a "procedure" she was told he needed, and she never saw him again
