Would you trust tripe as a hangover cure?
Damien has been hearing from Jimmy Grant at Widgers Butchers in Waterford city who says the delicacy still sells well among his older customers.
The bleached and cleaned lining of the cow's stomach is boiled in water and then cooked with milk and onions.
Jimmy says it's good for you: "It's a real old fashioned dinner. An old man told me one time that the best time to have it is 8o'clock, early in the morning after a hangover, but I couldn't face it then. I could have it at teatime or dinnertime but I couldn't face it at 8 o'clock in the morning."

Damien also chatted to Bridie Beamish who remembers cleaning tripe in the Butcher Powers in Dunmore East. Despite her career, she was nonetheless a committed vegetarian.
The discussion got the text machine going too. Pat from the city said: "I was rared on tripe. Boiled in milk and onions with loads of salt and pepper and a nob of butter. The best grub ever."
Bill meanwhile said the talk brought back memories of his time working on carriages in his younger days, where he would have to clean up after soccer supporters who were traveling back from away games. "The skeletons would be ripped asunder from the lads tearing at them. They were great times."
