Transplant recipient says face masks rule is not being enforced enough

Do you think there is enough compliance with the wearing of face masks in shops?

And if not, does the responsibility rest with the shop management to refuse entry (in some cases) or simply with the gardai who have the powers to enforce it?!

On this morning's Deise Today, Damien spoke to kidney transplant recipient Ray Halligan. He got in touch with the show because like so many, he has restricted his movements of late, only venturing to his local supermarket when he has to.

A week ago, he was in the store and noticed a man not wearing a mask. When he politely asked him why, the man simply replied "I don't wear masks".

Ray went to staff in the store but said the response he received was that where security personnel noticed people not wearing masks they approached them about it. But if the person was adamant they were not going to put one on, the shop's policy was to leave it be!

Ray didn't think it was good enough and decided to follow up with the store's headquarters.

This morning on Deise Today, Ray's story got a big reaction from our listeners, many also annoyed by the non-wearing of face masks - which is legally compulsory - in retail outlets.
