1. All Primary school classes and 5th years to return on Monday
The Department of Education has written to schools this afternoon to confirm the next phase of re-opening is going ahead. There will be a longer gap until the rest of secondary school students return with April 12th a possible return date.
2. 120% increase in online fraud during the pandemic
Gardai in Waterford say there’s been a massive rise in investment fraud during the Covid-19 pandemic. Common investment scams may include lucrative investment opportunities such as shares, bonds, cryptocurrencies, rare metals, overseas land investments or alternative energy.
3. Mass vaccination clinic set up in Waterford as roll-out stepped up
University Hospital Waterford is running the centre and hospital staff have been tasked with setting up the facility which has the capacity to vaccinate 40 people every 10 minutes once it’s fully operational. Meanwhile Waterford Minister of State Mary Butler says the government plans to vaccinate 1 million people every month from April.
4. Not using CCTV is 'GDPR gone mad' - Cummins
Not being able to use CCTV to catch the perpetrators of illegal dumping is 'GDPR gone mad' according to Senator John Cummins. The Labour Party brought a bill before Seanad to change the law, and it's estimated 90 million a year is spent on clean-ups by local authorities.
