Should Schools Scrap Uniforms to Stop Spread of Coronavirus - Deise Today Wednesday 12th August

Waterford has gone almost a month without any new confirmed cases of Covid-19 as parts of the rest of the country remain in lockdown. On today's show Maria speaks to Dr Geoff Plant about the wearing of facemasks  and they also discuss the government's planned colour coded system.

Maria also speaks to parents Margaret Myers and Lisa Moran as we face speculation that school uniform policies might be relaxed on the basis that wearing the same clothes may pose a public health threat.

Dr Liam Burke, co-investigator on the PIER project tells Maria how they are researching the risk of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria to those that swim in the sea. These Superbugs are recognised as one of the greatest threats to Human Health.

And Paul Hornan, the owner of Raglan Road pub and The Esquire restaurant in Tramore discusses the road closures on the main street of the town.

President of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association Edmund Phelan tells Maria how they are calling on supermarkets and other food retailers to accept that cheap food policies for meat, dairy, bread, fruit and veg is unacceptable and unsustainable.

Conor Faughnan director of consumer affairs with AA Ireland discusses breakdowns, driving tests and more.

Paul Bailey, Head of Communications with the Irish League of Credit Unions, tells Maria how a quarter of Munster parents will go into debt to cover back to school costs.
