Reaction to Phil Hogan's Resignation - Deise Today Thursday 27th August

EU commissioner Phil Hogan finally succumbed to pressure yesterday evening and resigned as the trade commissioner for the EU following scandal over his attendence at a golf event in Galway last week.  On the show today we get reaction from deputy news editor with The Farmers Journal Amy Forde. The Journal says that the presence of Phil Hogan as the EU's Trade Commissioner was seen as central to Ireland's interests, particularly for farming and the agri-food sector, which employs 175,000 people.

We also look at the government winter plan for the health service which was unveiled yesterday. Damien speaks to Dr Austin Byrne member of the Irish Medical Organisations GP Committee, who is based in Tramore. We also get reaction from Waterford TD David Cullinanae who is the Sinn Fein spokesperson for health.

Gerry Arthrs Lecturer in International Relations & Politics at WIT gives his take on the Republican National Convention. The third night saw Vice President Mike Pence take centre stage to make the case that Trump will bring the US economy back to its pre-pandemic heights if given four more years in office.

In the second part of the show Damien is joined by Dee Jacques who is retiring from her role with The Solas Cancer Centre after 20 years.

Muriel Cuddy CEO of Health and Wellness International talks to Damien about the mental wellbeing of students as they return to school. Things will be very different for students with restrictions in place as well as new classroom etiquette.

Colette Kearney, director of Mount Sion choir and committee member Joyce Carroll have details of the Concert 4 Cancer which the choir is involved in on Virgin Media this weekend.
