Councillors in Waterford have voted unanimously in favour of a motion, calling for sanitary products to be made freely available in public buildings.
The motion was put forward by Cllrs Eddie Mulligan and Lola O'Sullivan at this month's plenary meeting.
It comes as it was announced this week that free period products are being made available to women affected by period poverty by the retailer Lidl.
Stephanie Keating from Helping Hand Waterford, says that the public provides them with sanitary products to tackle period poverty in Waterford.
"We put out appeals saying we need dry food or non-perishable food or else we could put out an appeal saying we need some toiletries.
"It's the public who've been providing people with sanitary products and the public in Waterford are amazing, "she said.
