Over Flowing Bottle Banks an Issue in Waterford - Deise Today Friday 7th August

There have been calls for Waterford City and County Council to increase collection times at bottle banks across the county as photos emerge of overflowing collection points. An increase in domestic drinking and house parties since lockdown began has seen an escalation in the amount of empty bottles being left at these bottle banks. However the council say some of the banks were not even full and say that people are abandoning bottles without putting them in the collection banks. Maria speaks to councillor Joe Conway from Tramore as well as Fergus Galvin director with environmental services with the council.

The Irish Travel Agents Association says removing countries from the travel green list won't make a difference to travel agents as the amount of business is nearly 'non-existent' at the moment. They say consumer confidence has never been as low, with most customers opting to delay their travel plans until 2021. Maria speaks to Enniscorthy based travel agent and board member of the association Suzanne O Leary about this.

Anne Scully from the Waterford Rape And Sexual Abuse Centre discusses calls for changes in the prosecution of sexual offences.

Mounting concern over the suspension of bus routes operated by private companies serving Waterford City and surrounds are set to be allayed in the coming weeks, with movement expected from the NTA to support the licensed bus sector. Services from Portlaw and Dunmore East, operated by Suirway, and the Slieverue-Ballygunnar route, operated by JJ Kavanagh, have been suspended since March, with no replacement option provided for commuters dependent on public transport. Maria speaks to Green Party TD Marc O Cathasaigh about this.
