THERE was no 'plan B' prior to Christmas in the events the schools didn't re-open in January, the ASTI vice president has admitted.
Eamon Dennehy was speaking to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today this morning (Friday).
Yesterday, the Government abandoned plans to bring Leaving Cert students back into classrooms for three days a week from next Monday amid mounting opposition from both students and teachers.
The U-turn came less than 24 hours after the plan was first revealed to bring up to 60,000 sixth year students (and 18,000 pupils in special schools and special classes) back to school next week as part of new lockdown measures.
The ASTI said it had instructed its members not to co-operate with Monday's planned re-opening.
They said the decision was based on "significant concerns" about the health and safety of students, teachers and other staff.
