THE right to practise faith has not been stopped because Masses are not permitted in churches, according to a parish priest in East Cork.
Fr Tim Hazelwood, who is PP in Killeagh, Co Cork, said the current rules are for "the common good" and the "better of everyone" and he thinks the Church needs to back and support these to protect lives.
On Deise Today this morning, Fr Tim Hazelwood (who is heavily involved in the Association of Catholic Priests) said he can understand that people are frustrated with the ongoing restrictions, as was he.
However he said it's the "law of the land" at the moment and businesses and individuals are being asked to comply.
"If you do the wrong thing there is going to be consequences," he said, saying we didn't want to return to the situation we had with the virus in January.
Referring to a situation where industries like hospitality and hairdressing etc are having to remain shut, he also asked if it is a 'free for all' or if we decide rules are for "the common good and the better of everyone."
"Christ gave his life for others and part of the Christian make up is we make sacrifices for the good," he told Damien Tiernan.
In his own parish, Fr Tim said that two people had died from Covid-19 and many others had been sick from it.
He also revealed that of 10 people who had recently attended a funeral in Youghal, five people had become sick with Covid and sadly, one had died from it.
He also spoke about how Masses are still available online and the right to practise faith had not stopped. Nor had the ability to pray.
