How do you feel about the Covid vaccines?
Yesterday, the Government outlined its strategy for rolling out up to 14m doses of approved jabs which will be delivered by hospital doctors, GPs, nurses and pharmacists.
There's a possibility of mass vaccination centres, including here in Waterford at WIT, before the service will be moved to GP surgeries and community pharmacies.
While Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said the jabs will allow us to "reopen our society and reconnect in the ways we once took for granted", there have been some warnings that pregnant women may not be able to avail of them. It's also been warned that those planning to become pregnant may have to wait a number of months.
Waterford GP Niall McNamara spoke on the issue on Deise Today this morning with Damien Tiernan.
He said doctors don't know all the answers as yet about the vaccines but the regulatory authorities are assuring they are safe.
"Now...safe doesn't mean that there is 0.000% chance of something going wrong," Dr Niall McNamara said.
"Even very simple products that we consume every single day carry risk...paracetamol, Ibuprofen, antibiotics. All of these in very, very rare circumstances can cause very serious complications but because of the rarity, we accept the benefit far, far outweighs any rare risk attached. And that is true of vaccines too."
