Today's Irish Examiner reports that Former England U-21 international and West Ham coach, Ian Hendon, is set to take charge of Waterford FC for their crucial relegation playoff against UCD on Friday night.

The news comes after after the shock announcement yesterday that the club had sacked manager Marc Bircham. A statement subsequently was released yesterday evening.

Should the Blues lose to the Students, they’ll be playing First Division football next season. Hendon, who was an assistant to Sam Allardyce at West Ham, has 48 hours to prepare the players for their biggest game of the season.

John Fallon of the Irish Examiner reports that Hendon will take the reigns on Friday night.

The 49-year-old, who is a UEFA Pro-License holder, was in charge at both Barnet and Dover Athletic, while he also briefly managed Leyton Orient while also having a stint at Europa Point in Gibraltar.

The Englishman had a 20-year playing career, in which he lined out for Spurs, Sheffield Wednesday, Leyton Orient and Barnet.

Hendon will take first-team training at the RSC today.

It is believed that Marc Bircham will be in attendance at the play-off at Richmond Park, but in a supporter’s capacity.
