The 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has more than doubled in three areas of Waterford in the last fortnight.

The latest figures show that the rates for Lismore, Dungarvan and Waterford City South local electoral areas have all jumped up.

Lismore went from a rate of 46.6 cases per 100,000 people to 111.9, after 12 cases were confirmed in the fortnight to Monday May 3rd.

Dungarvan similarly went from 44 to 97.6, after 20 cases were confirmed.

And City South has gone from 62 to 133, that area had 30 cases in the two-week period.

City East and Portlaw/Kilmacthomas are the two areas locally that have seen the biggest improvement.

CIty East went from 100 to 34.8, while Portlaw/Kilmacthomas had fewer than 5 cases.

Tramore/City West has remained largely unchanged with 12 cases and an incidence rate of 53.6 in the time period.

A local electoral area in Co Donegal has a Covid-19 incidence rate that's five times the national average.

Milford had 683 cases per 100,000 people in the two weeks to Monday - by far the worst in the country.

Nenagh in Co Tipperary and Letterkenny in Co Donegal are the second and third highest, with rates of over 500.

Internationally, Ireland has the fifth-lowest incidence rate of Covid-19 in the EU.

Only Finland, Malta, Portugal and Norway had lower rates over the past two weeks, according to new data compiled by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
