Waterford Treasures wins 'gold standard' accreditation

Waterford Treasures has been awarded Full Accreditation status in the Heritage Council Museum Standards Programme for Ireland.

The programme, which began in 2007, benchmarks and promotes professional standards in museums all over Ireland, assessing a museum over seven categories from governance and management to visitor services and education and access.  Waterford Treasures was among the first museums to gain Full Accreditation in 2010 and has retained it ever since.

Chairman of the Heritage Council Michael Parsons said: “This programme is the gold standard for Irish museums, taking approximately five years to achieve full accreditation.”

Eamonn McEneaney, Director of Waterford Treasures added: “It’s fantastic to retain Full Accreditation for our award-winning Bishop’s Palace and Medieval Museum. It provides reassurance to stakeholders (and ourselves!) and is a crucial part of Waterford Treasures being a flagship Irish museum/visitor attraction. With Full Accreditation, two new museums – the Irish Museum of Time and the Irish Silver Museum, new apps and a walking tour, we’re is in a strong position for the post-Covid recovery of tourism and culture. We’re very grateful to the Heritage Council and MSPI.”
