The local authority in Waterford has received a 100% rebate of commercial rates not collected this year due to Covid-19.
The funding from the Department of Housing and Local Government is worth 9.7 million euro to Waterford Council.
CEO Michael Walsh says they've received really significant support from the government this year.
"Over €9 million of rates income has already been received from the government, in lieu of the rates waiver that has been given to businesses all over the city and county.
"That's very welcome, also we've been given assurances that other losses of income like parking that there is further money to come in the current year.
He says nobody knows what the income situation will be like next year.
"It very much depends on where Covid-19 goes rather than anything else.
"What government have given us is a broad assurance, they're essentially saying we've given you the support this year, we'll give it again next year if it's necessary."
Michael Walsh added that that's vital from their point of view in terms of doing budgets, "it gives us a level of certainty that allows us to proceed on a normal income basis," he said.
"That certainly is very, very welcome. We only received correspondence from the minister yesterday evening. That brings a level of assuredness and certainly will make doing the budget in the next week or two a lot easier," Michael Walsh concluded.
