Do you believe in fairies?? Would you disturb a so-called fairy ring fort??
On this morning's Deise Today, Damien spoken to environmentalist Sinead Mercier who is the co-author of a new book called 'Men who Eat Ringforts'.
The book is co-written with Michael Holly and legendary storyteller Eddie Lenihan.
It talks about how it's increasingly common in Ireland for the State to sacrifice fairy forts for motorway schemes and infrastructural development..and it questions whether this is the right approach!
On this morning's Deise Today, Sinead explained to Damien that Ireland is quite unique in the Western World in having at least 30,000 ring forts dotted across our landscape, as well as holy wells and fairy trees etc.
"Even though a certain field will be highly productive and used for tillage or for cattle, the farmer (will often) not touch the fairy fort or leave it surrounded by trees...and for me, this is an example this is an example of how people are naturally quite environmental conscious or are looking at the environment in a kind of 'I am part of it, the landscape is beautiful and kind of sacred' kind of way," Sinead told Damien.
She also quoted a survey in Iceland some time ago which asked people do they believe in fairies. Some 8% said they did exist but crucially, 54% said they wouldn't deny that they didn't!
When asked by Damien if she believed in fairies herself, Sinead said there was definitely "something there" and her feeling was that it was "best not to mess with it!"..
