Dungarvan GAA accept disqualification and lose county title

The Waterford County board have confirmed that Dungarvan GAA has accepted their punishment for Covid infringements during their Intermediate Football Final against Kill.

It means that the Intermediate Champions will lose their county title, individuals will be suspended and they will have to pay a fine.

A statement issued by Waterford GAA this evening, said "The Management Executive of Waterford County Board wishes to advise that the individual suspensions and the penalties of disqualification and fine for Dungarvan GAA Club, have been accepted.

"The Management Executive would like to thank the officers and members of Dungarvan GAA for their full cooperation with the investigation."

The sanctions come after a Dungarvan player who was awaiting the results of a COVID test that later turned out positive - played in the match at Fraher Field.

The club were penalised under Rule 7.2 (e) of the Official Guide: “Misconduct Considered to have Discredited the Association”.

Following on from the statement, a representative from Waterford GAA said that Dungarvan will not be promoted to senior and neither will runners-up Kill.

"Dungarvan are treated as forfeiting the game (the IF Final) but as per the rules in the Official Guide the game shall not be awarded to the opposing team.

"Therefore, no team will be promoted from Intermediate Football this year."
