A Waterford woman has been charged in relation to the publication of a post on social media, identifying the two teenage defendants in the Ana Kriégel trial.
25-year-old Rebecca Ryan, with an address Priory Lawn Ballybeg, Waterford is alleged to have published a post on Twitter, with the caption 'Here is Boy A and Boy B'.
Ms. Ryan did not appear before the court today, as, under new Covid restrictions hearings are the only sittings accused persons must attend.
A court order was put in place preventing the 14-year-old boys from being named under the Children's Act which prohibits the identification of minors accused or convicted of a criminal offence.
Detective Garda Niall Carolan from Harcourt Square Garda Station told the court that the post included the hashtag '#Justice for Ana', and included red circles around the heads of two individuals' photos in the post.
Detective Carolan said that this tweet was subsequently shared on other social media platforms, and was in breach of the aforementioned Children's Act.
He said it was the first of many posts relating to the case, which are being investigated by Gardaí.
Defence Lawyer Hilary Delahunty noted that excluding the caption, the Tweet was not an original post but actually taken from another social media platform.
Mr Delahunty has been assigned to represent Ms.Ryan in the case and Detective Garda Carolan handed the Garda files to him.
Judge Kevin Staunton told Waterford District court today, that the case being dealt with [Ana Kriégel's Murder trial] "couldn't have been more serious".
Judge Staunton accepted jurisdiction in the case and the it has been adjourned until December 10th, for either a plea or a hearing.
