Grand Hotel 'saga' rumbles on

The case by Waterford Council against the registered owner of Tramore's Grand Hotel has been adjourned again at Waterford District Court.

The hotel, which has lain vacant for the past six years, has been at the centre of legal proceedings after the owners were served a derelict sites notice by Waterford Council in 2018.

The Council has been attempting to serve a summons on Mr Wu Guoqing after a failure to comply with the notice.

Tramore Councillor Joe Conway has been closely following proceedings. He said there was slight progress made on the issue at Monday's hearing, with indications that the Council's legal team was getting closer to being able to serve the summons on Mr Guoqing.

Cllr Conway was afforded the opportunity to address the court by Judge Staunton. He said that the "saga had gone on too long" and "the Council needed to step up to the plate and use their powers of enforcement to bring the matter to a finality".

The hotel is fast falling into disrepair and is widely regarded as a blight on the seaside town, which has seen a rejuvenation in recent years with new businesses opening and works to enhance the public realm getting underway.

The case was due to come before the courts again in November, however it is not yet clear if sittings will be going ahead under Level 5 restrictions.
