A number of new residents are said to be 'elf-isolating' in the Larchville-Lisduggan-Manor St.John area of Waterford city.
It's understood the creatures have decided to base themselves in the area to ensure that Christmas will be possible for children in Waterford.
Local Councillor and member of the Larchville-Lisduggan-Manor St John Residents' Association John Hearne says that Gardaí and the Council have been contacted in relation to elves' appearance, but they will not be moved.
Cllr Hearne says he has contacted the Director of Housing at Waterford City and County Council Ivan Grimes in relation to the issue and who said the elves are not breaking any planning laws by basing themselves in trees.
Cllr Hearne says the elves were spotted leaving a well-known toy factory in the city with a cart filled with presents, and it's understood they've chosen the area as their base for Christmas after seeing it reached the finals of 'The Pride of Place Awards'.
Community Garda in the area Chris Murray says the elves have been vetted and at present are not deemed to be a threat to the community, but Gardaí will continue to monitor the situation.
Vicky Butler from the Estates Management Office at Waterford City and County Council says that she has knocked on a number of there doors but has yet to meet any in the flesh.
However one of the Elves sent a message to WLR this morning after hearing about our enquiries, assuring children there is nothing to be afraid of.
The young, and young at heart can hear more about the situation at present right here:
