Funding has been provided in Budget 2021 to open a Memory Clinic in Waterford for people with dementia.
The clinics provide a range of services for people worried about their memory or cognitive problems.
Waterford Minister of State Mary Butler says she was chair of the all-party committee for dementia in the last government.
Speaking to Damien Tiernan she said: "11 people are diagnosed every day with dementia in Ireland and the services are kind of hit and miss depending on where you live.
"Yesterday I was in a position for the first time ever to deliver 13m for dementia support and in some good news for Waterford it's included among the four new Memory Clinics.
"Normally if you have an issue with dementia you might have to go to St.James' in Dublin, so there's now going to be four Memory Clinics - two in the South East in Waterford and Wexford, and two in the North West."
