Hope for Junior Ministry for Waterford

Hope for Junior Ministry for Waterford

A Waterford TD is hopeful that the South East will be represented in Government when Junior Ministers are appointed this week. The cabinet will meet this afternoon as the new Coalition begins its first week in office.

Fianna Fail TD Mary Butler says there was a lot of disappointment among TD's who did not get a seat at the cabinet table when the list of senior ministers was announced on Saturday. But she is hopeful yet.

There were no positions for any TD's in the South East, sparking anger in Waterford. There are 3 ministers from Micheal Martin's constituency of Cork and 6 from Leo Varadkar's constituency of Dublin.

The surprise promotion of Green Party Senator Pippa Hackett to a "super-junior" Cabinet post has reportedly enraged some of the party's other nine TDs who did not make the Government first team.

Green Party TD Marc O Cathasaigh says he personally is not disappointed as he is only new to the Dail, however he is disappointed that Waterford was overlooked.

"I have to say as a Waterford man, so in that geographical sense, the entire region of the South East isn't represented and I do think that is something that should be addressed. Its a big region , there's a lot of people living here."
