A powerful documentary film about a terrorism case centred around Waterford opens in cinemas tonight.
Jihad Jane tells the somewhat absurd story of American's Colleen LaRose and Jamie Paulin-Rameriz who travelled to Waterford in 2009 to meet Ali Charaf Damache.
They were involved in a plot to kill the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks.
The film by Ciaran Cassidy has already received 4-star reviews and will be shown at the Omniplex in Waterford at 18.20.
Ciaran Cassidy told the Irish Examiner that he made the film because he was intrigued by the Irish part of the story.
“There are farcical elements to it but they were threatening to kill someone so you had to treat it credibly,” he said.
“When they were arrested there was a clear picture created that this was a serious, credible threat and that they were dangerous.
“But when you see the film and you see Colleen get in the car with all her teddy bears you see a different side of who these people are and what was going on. We were interested in telling that side of the story.”
