International Pizza Day

International Pizza Day

Never mind Election 2020, the greatest polarized debate you should be talking about today has got to be.... pizza.

Nearly everyone has a favourite style of pizza, or a favourite pizza topping. Some people are disgusted at the prospect of pineapple on a pizza (sweet fruit... on savoury dinner) while others cant live without it. Deep pan or thin base? Lots of cheese or no?  What about a fried egg on top?? And is it ever ok to eat pizza cold? These are the big questions we must ask ourselves on this, International Pizza Day (or day after election, so election fatigue day)

For your pleasure, here are some different styles of pizza for you to drool over this lunchtime.

DEEP DISH

Traditionally associated with the city of Chicago, deep dish flips the pizza idea on its head with the cheese on the bottom and tomatoe sauce on the top. More like a pie than pizza.

Focaccia base

Typical of Rome this pizza is generally served by the slice with a variety of toppings.

Calzone

Basically a flipped over pizza which originated in Naples. The term calzone roughly translates to “Stocking” or “trouser,” Common to street vendors in Italy.

Breakfast

It shouldn't work.... but it does. It combines lots of peoples 2 favourite things and therefore is a winner.

Classic thin base

People who like thin base.... like thin base, and will not have it any other way. The tomatoe sauce is important in this one and there has to be just the right amount.

Traditionally Chicago and New York bicker over the best type of pizza and while Chicago go for deep dish, thin base is typical of New York restaurants.

So if that wasn't enough to make you want pizza for dinner tonight, we don't know what is.

Also for all you pizza fanatics out there, with Valentines Day coming up soon this may be the perfect gift for that pizza lover in your life.
