Storm Brendan brings gusts of more than 100km to Waterford

Update 1.20 pm:

Storm Brendan is sweeping across the country bringing gusts of 113km an hour to Waterford.

An orange wind warning is in effect nationwide with the storm forecast to be at its strongest until 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Motorists are being advised to watch out for debris and to stay away from coastal areas.

Mike Kelly is from Waterford Weather.

"We're hitting the worst period of the storm now in Waterford. We can expect the worst of the conditions until 2 o'clock today.

"They had a gust of 102km/h out at the airport, it's about 80 or 85 in the city.

"There's heavy rain expected, conditions are bad at the moment, they're set to stay bad for the next couple of hours.

"We could see gusts of 110km/h or 120km/h especially in exposed coastal areas."

Power Cuts

1,700 homes and businesses are without power in the Tramore area of Waterford.

There's no restoration time at present.

There's a fault affecting the Carroll's Cross area of County Waterford, 98 homes, businesses and farms are without electricity. A further 77 properties are affected in the Clonea area.
