Meet the Waterford farmer voted Young Dairy Farmer of the Year - Deise Today Wednesday 8th January

Meet Shane Fitzgerald, a dairy farmer from Portlaw who has just been named as the Young Dairy Farmer of the Year. He is in studio along with WLR farming correspondent Kieran O Connor.

Also on today's show Damien discusses the governments failed plans for a commemoration in memory of the Royal Irish Constabulary, which was cancelled yesterday following a backlash. Damien is joined is studio by Fianna Fail Cllr Eamon Quinlan who debates the issue with Fine Gael Cllr and election candidate Damien Geoghegan.

And lobster and crab fisherman from Dunmore East, Shane McIntyre is taking part in the search for the missing fisherman off the Waterford coast. He also appeared in a TG4 documentary being shown tonight on the lives of fishermen in this country.

In the second part of the show, Damien speaks to Martin Varley, Secretary General of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association who outlines the surgery cancellations at Waterford Regional Hospital and the effect on patients in terms of the reduced care outcomes.
