The heritage narrow gauge railway runs along 17 kilometres of the former Waterford to Dungarvan line from Kilmeaden towards Waterford City.
Last month it was announced that more than two and a half million euro in funding was being made available to complete the Greenway from Bilberry to the Viking Triangle.
Fianna Fail's John O'Leary wants to know if the railway can also be extended. He asked if there was an opportunity for an extension of the Railway and to carry out a feasability study
and see if funding could be secured. He said it would be a unique service to Mount Congreve Gardens , Carriganore, and WIT.
Director of Services for Economic Development & Planning, Michael Quinn said there were two major issues. The first was a land take which would obviously be expensive. The council
he said had managed to work to a reasonable degree with the road and the space that is there with a certain limited amount of land take. To add the Suir Valley Railway to that would
require a greater land take and would impact significantly on a couple of the businesses along there as well as the development sites.
Michael Quinn said the other issue they would face is the topography there would make it very expensive, so at this point in time it certainly is not feasible.
