An Bord Pleanála has granted permission for an Aldi Store in Tramore.
Aldi Ireland confirmed it will open a supermarket on Strand Road. It will be located on the former Celtworld site. An estimated 20 new jobs will be created at the store which will be constructed in the award-winning Project Fresh design format.
The retailer has been trying to secure planning permission to locate in the County Waterford town for more than a decade.
Commenting, Niall O'Connor, Managing Director Aldi Mitchelstown Region said: "We welcome An Bord Pleanála's decision and are delighted to open in Tramore, bringing our range of award-winning products at unbeatable prices to the local community. We have been frustrated by the delay tactics employed by some of our competitors, who have attempted to thwart our efforts to secure planning permission in Tramore for some time. We were confident that our application was in accordance with good planning and sustainable development and are now delighted that An Bord Pleanála has confirmed the planning permission."
"Our existing five stores in Waterford City and Dungarvan are very popular locally. Each store is deeply embedded within its local community, donating surplus food daily to local charitable organisations as part of Aldi's partnership with FoodCloud. Combined, our Waterford stores have donated almost 60,000 meals to charity through FoodCloud."
"We are investing €160m to expand and upgrade our Irish store network. We have committed €100m to constructing and opening 20 new stores by the end of 2019, while Project Fresh sees a further €60m investment to revamp the layout and design of all our 135 stores nationwide."
