Questions still remain over the purchase of a fleet of vans by Waterford Council - that's according to a Sinn Féin councillor.

1.4 million euro was spent on over sixty of the vehicles without authorisation from senior management last year.

However Council executives say the local authority did not pay over-the-odds for the new fleet.

Councillor Declan Clune requested a copy of the tender for the vehicles at last month's Council meeting.

He has reviewed the tender and says the automatic transmissions were listed as an option, not as a standard requirement.

He says there is a veil of secrecy surrounding the process and he has asked that the audit committee of the council report to the plenary council as soon as possible. He says the Government auditor who flagged a lot of this information is under the impression that the audit committee has reported when in fact they have not.

He says there hasn't been enough transparency so far.
