Home Instead Senior Care will be at Ardkeen Stores on the Dunmore Road every Friday from 10am to 12noon. They will have information about osteoporosis and advice on some of the foodstuffs that can help keep bones healthy. You will also be able to pick up their free information booklet “Beat the Break” – a guide to osteoporosis, healthy bones and fall prevention.

Thousand of tables have taken part in the various charity fun quizzes by Bob O’Brien when the next few quizzes are over. On Thursday March 11th there is a table quiz in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin in Minnie’s, starting at 8:45pm and it is only €5 per person, tables of 3 or 4. The biggest quiz they ever did in Dungarvan was for this hospital when a total of over €7,000 was raised on the one night. During the nine years that they have being doing quizzes they have helped over 50 organisations in the locality and over the past three years they have helped to organise the Lions Club On Air Radio Quiz. If they have done a quiz for your organisation in the past, then they ask you to send a table to this quiz.

A race night will take place at Kilcohan Dog Track on March 12th at 7:45pm in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Cancer Research. Tickets are available at Next Door Shops in Waterford and the Irish Cancer Society Shop on The Quay. Cost is €10 each. Please support this event which raises much needed funds to provide support Cancer Services in Ireland and Research into the causes of cancer. The Mother 2 Mother Group is the county's only independent breastfeeding support group in Co. Waterford. They meet twice a month, the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month in Dungarvan Youth Club, Ringnasillogue, Dungarvan. They provide a relaxed, social environment where we aim to offer advice and information in a manner that makes a mother feel empowered of her own parenting abilities. They have a library from which people coming to group can borrow books and magazines on all aspects of breastfeeding and baby care, pregnancy and baby weaning. They have a selection of toys for toddlers to play with while mums are talking. Meetings last from 10.30am to 12 noon. Next scheduled meetings are March 23rd and 13th and April 27th. Charities involved are: the Cardiac Rehab Unit at WRH, Waterford Simon Community (32 Johnstown Industrial Estate) and The South East Cancer Foundation (The Solas Centre). Admission is €10. The Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) Service in Waterford will be held on the first and third Wednesday evening of every month in St. Brigid's Family and Community Centre on the Lower Yellow Road. Cityside CBDI provides a safe space in the form of a Family Support Group for concerned family members to come together to share their experiences and to support one another to get through the crises that arise. Family Support Groups meet weekly in confidence and are open to anyone who shares this concern. The main purpose of these groups is to combat the isolation and fear that substance misuse causes. There is no need to be alone with this problem for one moment longer.

The Farronshoneen Youth and Community Centre offers a wide range of events for young people aged 10 to 21 living in the Dunmore Road Neighbourhood. Support in the Community
The Community Based Drugs Initiative offers support in communities (Ferrybank, Innercity, Hillview and Gracedieu) to those affected by drugs in a number of ways. It offers one to one support for individuals and families it also provides the facility for family support groups to come together. The priority at all times is to provide a safe, confidential and non judgmental space for people who may be going through a very difficult time in their life because of drugs including alcohol. A focus of the Community Based Drugs Initiative is to promote prevention of drug misuse through raising awareness in local communities, by offering drug awareness/education programmes for Parents, Young People, Community and Voluntary Groups. Communities are supported and encouraged to identify the needs in their own area and are helped to develop plans to respond to the drug misuse issues in their community. If you want to be free of constant worry, pressure, negativity and stress the practice of regular meditation can give you a life that is calm, peaceful, happy and relaxed. Why not come along to the Parish rooms at the back of St. Saviour’s Church every Tuesday evening from 7:15pm till 8.45pm for guided meditation sessions. There is no cost for this, though you are asked to give a donation of whatever you feel can afford or is appropriate for you, which will be passed on to a good cause, care of parish priest. There is a Walking and Ramblers Club in the area of Dunmore East, Woodstown, Cheekpoint, Passage East and the surrounding areas. The Ramblers Club will be suitable for people who want to enjoy a short walk. There will be a leader for all walkers and ramblers and will be fully organised. St. Brigid’s Family Resource Centre in partnership with Waterford City Council’s Central Library have started Parent and Toddler Group for Waterford City. The Parent and Toddler Group will be run in the newly refurbished Children’s Corner of Waterford City Council’s Central Library in Ladylane and will take place each week on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 to 12noon. There will be some fun activities, storytelling and entertainment for the toddlers, and for the parents we hope to include some information and invite guest speakers on various relevant topics of interest. The Carers Association service in Waterford County. The areas for outreach are: Dungarvan, Cappoquin, Tramore and Kilmacthomas. Service will provide carers with support, training and information on their rights and entitlements closer to home. Service will operate a day clinic in Dungarvan on Tuesday afternoons in the Dungarvan partnership offices from 2:30-5pm. Co. Waterford Community Drug Awareness
Your community drugs worker is available to you for support, information, advice and drug education. Stress relief and substance detox clinic is available to entire community. This service offers you a chance to relax and detox for 1 hour a week. Clinic runs every Thursday morning 11-12:30pm in Tramore Library and evening 6:30-7:30pm in Community Building, Ard and Ghleanna, Tramore. Cost is €2 - €5. Rainbows is a support programme for children aged 6 to 12 years who are experiencing loss due to the death of a relative or parental separation. A Rainbows programme is available each Wednesday from 7pm - 8pm throughout the school term in St. Brigids Family and Community Centre, 37 Lower Yellow Road, Waterford.
